Power Poles have arrived at LaGuardia (LGA), giving passengers stanchions where they can recharge portable electronics devices at no cost.

The program, which began at John F. Kennedy International (JFK) in 2006, is post-security throughout the Central Terminal building. The port authority plans to bring the program to other agency facilities, including Newark Liberty International (EWR).

“Customer service is a hallmark of our airports,” says Susan Bass Levin, acting executive director of the port authority. “When our customers asked us in our surveys for power outlets to recharge their portable electronic devices, we listened and responded quickly.  Kennedy Airport soon became the first airport in the country to offer this free service. We’ll continue to seek out innovative ways to provide our customers with a more pleasant travel experience.”
 
William R. DeCota, port authority director of aviation, says, “As the use of cell phones, PDAs, laptops and other electronics has proliferated, so too has the need to keep all those batteries charged.  The Power Poles at JFK have proved tremendously popular with travelers, and we’re happy to expand the program so that our LaGuardia customers – and soon many other travelers – can take advantage of this as well.”
 
The authority hired JCDecaux in 2005 to help identify revenue-enhancing opportunities via advertising at its locations. Advertising on the Power Poles is by Samsung.
