ACY Sets Airport Records For Passenger Traffic |

Atlantic City International (ACY) is breaking passenger records at a time when air travel is down nationally.
Passenger counts were up 23% in the first half of 2010, compared to the same period last year; that’s 136,000 more passengers this year. Each month for the first six had more passengers than last year, as well, and in four of those six months, it broke records set in previous years.
In July, 136,059 total passengers went through the airport, a single-month record for ACY. Scheduled service has increased 28.76% from Jan. 1 to July.
Airport officials say new service routes from AirTran Airways and Spirit Airlines, as well as a renewed focus on promoting the airport, contributed to the increases.
“With the mid 2009 launch of AirTran service to its hub in Atlanta and Spirit’s Boston service, we committed to ramping up marketing of the airport by focusing on the benefits of flying ACY,” says Bart R. Mueller, executive director of the South Jersey Transportation Authority, the owner and operator of the airport. “The airport is easy to access, parking is just steps from the terminal, low-fare airlines make flying more affordable and the wait time from arrival to gate is minimal.
Spirit added service to Detroit, Mich., in May, and says it will launch service to Chicago, Ill., in March.
